Wheat extends losses, as funds prefer corn

Tuesday, rather than offering any kind of turnaround, as noted in Chicago lore, continued exactly where the last session left off.

Corn nudged higher, continuing to gain support from Friday’s US Department of Agriculture data showing domestic stocks of the grain far lower than expected as of September 1, the end of 2011-12, and implying more resilient use than had been expected in the face of high prices.

Wheat prices ease after Russia shuns export curbs

Russia eschewed grain export curbs in a package of measures to stabilise domestic grain markets after drought damage which has left the country facing its worst wheat harvest in nine years.

Russia’s agriculture ministry, at a much-anticipated food security meeting to discuss shrunken crop supplies, narrowed its grains harvest forecast to 70m tonnes, at the bottom of a previous range 70m-75m tonnes.
